In 2013, the October 6th Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon route is changing and this affects residents in the Hale and Diamond Lake neighborhoods. The starting line for the race has changed slightly in anticipation of construction around the Metrodome, and to make up for the resulting lost distance, runners will now run along the west side of Lake Nokomis on W. Lake Nokomis Parkway (see map, attached). In previous years, runners have followed Cedar Avenue across the lake before turning on E. Lake Nokomis Parkway.
Traffic will not be allowed on W. and E. Lake Nokomis Parkway and road closures will begin at 7:30 a.m. Please be aware of special NO PARKING restrictions along the routes; signs will be posted on each block. Residents living in the affected area should utilize westbound streets and southbound avenues. For northbound travel, 35W and Nicollet Avenue both go over the course and will be unaffected.
Twin Cities In Motion works closely with the police and traffic departments to ensure safety and minimal disruptions. The race route will be opened to traffic at approximately 11:20 after the runners and TCM cleaning crew have passed the area. As a major community event, we strive to be a good neighbor to all residents who live and work along the course and ask our runners, spectators and volunteers to respect public and private property as if it were their own.
Thank you for understanding and we hope that you will come out and cheer on the race!
