Minneapolis’ Earth Day Cleanup began in 1995. The event began as a way to improve the water quality of our expansive watershed. It has since become the city’s largest community service project with over 17,000 participants and more than 140,000 lbs of garbage collected in just the last eight years. The cleanup makes a visible difference and has greatly improved the quality of water. It has expanded to include educational activities for all ages.
Hale, Page, Diamond Lake’s Earth Day celebration will take place Saturday, April 25th from 9:30-Noon at Pearl Park. This year’s activities will include making compostable planters, a recycling game, and Elpis Enterprises will be there to help kid’s create bird houses! A master gardener will help you plan for the upcoming gardening season. Representatives from Metro Blooms and Friends of Diamond Lake will share their plans to further improve our local watershed by helping residents install rain gardens and permeable pavement. Make sure to enter our door prize and grab a donut and coffee. Gloves and trash bags will be available at Pearl Park. Thanks for helping keep Minneapolis a beautiful place to live, work, and play!
A special THANK YOU to Super America for the donuts and Caribou for the coffee!
